WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and GHS (Globally Harmonized System)
Under Ontario Regulation 860 of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, a WHMIS program is required in all workplaces that use or handle potentially hazardous materials. The three principal elements include labelling, worker education/training, and material safety data sheets (MSDSs). Walsh & Associates Professional Safety Services offers services to ensure your compliance in all three areas: providing WHMIS training to your staff, completing hazard assessments, making recommendation for appropriate controls, and auditing your existing program to identify gaps and areas of potential non-compliance.
Additional services may include occupational hygiene and PPE (personal protective equipment) assessment to ensure not just legislative compliance but, more importantly, the safety of your staff.
COUNTDOWN TO GHS: ARE YOU READY? Make sure your workplace is up to date on new GHS (Globally Harmonized System) legislation slated for implementation in early 2015 and compliant with the expected changes it will bring to WHMIS.
